Booking your Cruise

You have selected your cruise and want to book but you still have some choices to consider. Below are some tips to help on each part of the booking process!

Selecting Your Cabin
The selection of cabin in which you choose can have a big influence on the price you will pay for your cruise. Prices will differ depending on type, size and facilities included. Your travel agent will find available cabins for you to choose. Sometimes you can only book a cabin by grade.

Different types of cabin include:

  • Inside Cabins with no natural light
  • Window Cabins with a porthole or picture view
  • Outside with a balcony
  • Suits

Size of Your Cabin:

  • Cabins are compact hotel rooms
  • Modern ships cabins are about 150 to 185 sqft
  • Suits can go as big as 3000 sqft
  • Choose the largest cabin that’s within your budget if you are spending a lot of time there, otherwise save your money and buy a smaller one.

The location of the cabin does not alter the price. Usually the deck it’s on will affect the price. Suits are commonly situated on the higher decks.

  1. A cruise line package that includes flights, transfers and cruise. This is the easiest and safest option.

  2. Allow a travel agent to organise each element of your holiday for you.

  3. You buy the cruise and organise flights and transfers.

Costs
Once you have decided on your cruise you should take a look at the possible costs. Although cruises are marked as “All Inclusive” and in fact the fare does usually include the cruise, food, accommodation and entertainment onboard there are other important costs you need to factor in. Such as, parking, drinks, shore outings and tips.

You will expect to pay a deposit when booking your cruise of about 10% for package cost. You will then have 60 days before departure to pay the remaining balance. Lookout for booking fees and credit card handling fees.

Choosing the right Travel Agent
Choosing the right Travel Agent can be vital when arranging your cruise holiday. A Travel Agent who is experienced and knowledgeable in cruising can make a big impact on the experience you have.

Insurance
Make sure you have travel insurance before your cruise begins as cruise lines insist on it.
